Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Practice Manager or a motivated Trainee Practice Manager to work closely with the Business Manager in the day‑to‑day management and strategic development of the practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established manager or an aspiring manager looking to develop their career within general practice. A special interest and/or qualification in Human Resources is highly desirable, as the role includes significant responsibility for staff management and workforce development.

The position requires working on site 5 days a week.

Main Duties
  • Support the Business Manager in the operational and strategic management of the practice
  • Oversee HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, staff contracts, appraisals, absence management, and performance processes
  • Ensure compliance with employment law, NHS regulations, and practice policies
  • Contribute to workforce planning, training, and staff wellbeing initiatives
  • Assist with practice policies, procedures, and governance
  • Manage or support the management of day‑to‑day practice operations
  • Liaise with external organisations including PCN, ICB, and other NHS bodies
  • Support service development and quality improvement initiatives

For trainee applicants, full training and support will be provided, with a structured development plan in place.

Richmond Medical Group is a busy GP training practice with 17,500 patients and 50 staff. We are based in South West London.

You will be required to work closely with partners, the business manager and senior staff to support smooth workflows for staff and patients.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • Experience working in a GP practice or healthcare setting, or demonstrable management/administrative experience
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and non‑clinical teams
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements

Desirable qualifications and experience include:

  • Previous experience as a Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, or similar role
  • HR qualification (e.g. CIPD) or strong interest in HR management
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience of NHS systems and primary care operations
  • Willingness to undertake further training and development (for trainee applicants)
