Job description

Parkside Family Practice is looking to recruit a Practice Manager with excellent interpersonal skills to handle the day-to-day operations of a busy surgery serving over 17,000 patients with a team of 50 staff. The role involves ensuring contractual key performance indicators are met, developing opportunities, and maintaining high-quality patient care aligned with available resources and our Patient First approach.

Main duties of the job

You will oversee the smooth operation of our clinical team, including Partners, Salaried GPs, Nursing staff, Paramedic, Physician Associate, Pharmacy team, Physiotherapist, and Administrative and Reception teams, working with their managers. The role also includes financial responsibilities.

The Practice Manager is responsible for maintaining CQC regulation compliance, ensuring premises are well-maintained, and fire and security systems are in place.

We are a modern practice serving 17,000 patients from two sites in Woodley and Earley, with 3 Partners and a dedicated team. We support trainee placements and have strong community links.

We seek a Practice Manager with strong leadership, strategic planning, and financial skills, who is proactive, organized, passionate about patient care, and capable of ownership and problem-solving.

Strategic Development
  • Promote service expansion and new initiatives.
  • Seek development opportunities.
  • Achieve contractual KPIs.
  • Ensure data requirements and performance management are met.
  • Provide performance reports and manage mitigation plans.
Operational Delivery
  • Oversee financial aspects supporting the Finance Manager.
  • Ensure services meet national guidelines and quality standards.
  • Maintain service efficiency and quality care.
  • Promote and market services effectively.
  • Ensure CQC compliance and maintain premises and safety systems.
  • Manage meetings, protocols, and procedures.
Team Management
  • Lead staff management and oversee recruitment, performance, and safety.
  • Ensure staff training, development, and compliance with legislation.
  • Support staff mentoring and professional growth.
Communication and Engagement
  • Develop communication strategies for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain relationships with the PCN, ICB, LMC, PPG, and other organizations.
  • Manage patient engagement and feedback systems.
  • Oversee appointment systems, team rotas, and holiday cover.
NON GMS Services
  • Manage procurement opportunities and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure access to appropriate services for the practice population.
Person Specification
  • Degree level education in Business Management or related field.
  • Management and leadership experience, especially in NHS or General Practice settings.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Full clean driving license.
  • Proven strategic planning experience.
