Job summary

Royal Mail is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our Fort William team on a 30-hour week, fixed-term contract for 9 months. You will deliver letters and parcels, using a Royal Mail van and on foot, while engaging with customers and upholding service standards.

You’ll work a rotating schedule, including weekends, and be prepared to work outdoors in all weather as part of a supportive, active community role.

Qualifications

  • Full manual UK driving licence required (max 6 points).
  • Physically fit to walk long distances and lift mailbags.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in all weather.

Location: Fort William Delivery Office, PH33 6AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday – 08:00am/17.00pm*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

  • Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
  • Driving a Royal Mail van daily
  • Working in all weather conditions
  • Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
  • Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods
About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

  • A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
  • Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
  • Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
  • Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
  • Comfortable working outdoors and independently
