Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Kirkwall on a fixed term contract. The role covers 32:05 hours per week with weekend work and a rotating shift, delivering letters and parcels from Kirkwall Delivery Office KW15 1AA. You’ll drive a Royal Mail van, walk when needed, and be the face of our trusted service.

The position offers an active outdoor role with paid overtime. A full UK manual driving licence is required (max 6 penalty points) and you’ll join a supportive team

Job type: Fixed Term contract (xx months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 32:05 hours per week – working (X) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:45/16:45*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast‑paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time‑pressed days, especially during peak periods

About You

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
