Job summary

Royal Mail Group is hiring a Postie to deliver letters and parcels from the Berwick-upon-Tweed Delivery Office. The role includes sorting at the office, delivering by van and on foot, and building customer relationships while working outdoors in all weather.

Contract is fixed-term for 6 months with 27:50 hours per week across five days. The role requires a full manual UK driving licence and driving assessment, with paid overtime available.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 27:50 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 10:20/15:50*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast‑paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions

• Busy, time‑pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

*Please note: For candidate search purposes, roles offering between 35-37 hours per week are listed as full‑time. However, any role under 37 hours per week will be classified as part‑time in the employment contract.
