Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Duns is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed term contract for 6 months. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in your local area, working outdoors in all weather.

The role involves a rotating shift, some weekends, and a 30-hour week with overtime opportunities. You must have a full manual UK driving licence and pass a driving assessment.

Qualifications

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs/hills, and lifting 10kg+ mailbags.

Location: Duns Delivery Office, TD11 3AB

Job type: Fixed Term contract(6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Saturday -10:30/16:30*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
