Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie in Ilfracombe to deliver letters and parcels across local routes. You will sort mail at the delivery office, drive a Royal Mail van, and walk routes in all weather conditions.

The role requires a full UK manual driving licence (6 points max) and the ability to pass a driving assessment. You will work 37 hours per week on a rotating schedule, including weekends, with paid overtime and a 9-month fixed term contract.

Location: Ilfracombe Delivery Office, EX34 8PL

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 8:15am - 4pm or 10:30am-7:30pm

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 1 in 4 Sundays at Barnstable Delivery Office, working between 9am-7pm.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
