Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Uckfield. The role is a fixed term contract for 6 months, 30 hours per week with a rotating schedule across Monday–Sunday and shifts 08:30–16:30 or 12:00–20:00.

Training is provided, including a uniform and a Royal Mail van. You’ll deliver letters and parcels, meet customers, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points or fewer.
• Ability to walk long distances and work outdoors in all weather.
• Reliable, self-motivated and customer-focused with good organisation.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:30 to 16:30/12:00 to 20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Tonbridge Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
