Job summary

Royal Mail in Poole is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 9-month role at the Poole Delivery Office. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, working 30 hours across Monday to Sunday on a rotating schedule.

You must have a full manual UK driving licence, be fit to walk long distances, and be reliable and self-motivated. Training is provided, and you’ll benefit from job security, pension, and flexible benefits.

Location: Poole Delivery Office, BH15 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.Working hours: 30.00hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday

Monday - Saturday hours: 13:00 - 19:00

Sunday hours: 10:00 - 16:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Winton Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
