Job summary

Royal Mail in Swansea is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift, driving a Royal Mail van and delivering on foot across the local area. You will build relationships with customers and work outdoors in all weathers.

Full training, a uniform, and a dependable schedule are provided. The role is physically demanding but rewarding, with paid overtime available and a benefits package that includes pension support and holiday leave.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
• Must be physically fit for long walking distances and outdoor work.

Location: Swansea Delivery Office, SA1 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 36:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:30/14:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work two in five Sundays at Swansea Delivery Office working between 10:00/18:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
