Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Strabane is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a permanent contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot in Strabane and surrounding area, and build relationships with customers. The role is outdoors, weather permitting, and follows a rotating shift.

Full training is provided, along with a uniform and a Royal Mail van. You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence, be prepared for weekend work, and enjoy an active role with a clear routine

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence is required (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances and carry loads.
• Reliable and self-motivated with good organisation and resilience.

Location: Strabane Delivery Office, BT82 8AA

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37:00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday -08:10/15:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
