Royal Mail in Shrewsbury is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 6-month fixed-term contract. You will work 30 hours per week across five days, 07:45 to 15:45, with weekends on a rotating schedule and some overtime.

The role involves driving a Royal Mail van, walking in the local area, and delivering letters and parcels in all weathers. You must have a full manual UK driving licence (6 penalty points max), be physically fit, and able to pass a driving assessment.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:45/15:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
