Job summary

Royal Mail in Crewe is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build strong relationships with customers in your local area.

The role is physically demanding, outdoors in all weather, and includes a rotating shift schedule with some weekend work. Training is provided, and a uniform plus a red Royal Mail van are supplied.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated.

Location: Crewe Delivery Office, CW1 6AR
Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)
Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 35:00 hours per week – working 4/5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:15-16:30 or 11:00-20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 1 in 6 Sundays at Crewe Delivery Office between 08:00-14:00.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
