Job summary

Royal Mail in Selby is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot across your local area, and build relationships with customers on a rotating schedule that includes weekends.

You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit to walk long distances, and enjoy working outdoors in all weather. Training is provided, with pension and wellbeing support as part of the package.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated, with good organisation and resilience.

Location: Selby Delivery Office, YO8 4EH

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00 - 15:45/12:00 - 18:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at York Delivery Office 11-5.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
