Job summary

Royal Mail in Maidstone is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join the team on a fixed-term 6-month contract in Maidstone. The role is 30 hours per week, with a rotating shift pattern including weekends, and a pay of £13.68 per hour plus paid overtime.

You will sort and deliver letters and parcels, work in all weather conditions, and engage with customers while representing the trusted Royal Mail service.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated; strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment.
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service and working outdoors independently.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30.00hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:30/16:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags

• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
