Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Sheerness is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. The role is 27.5 hours per week on a rotating shift across Monday to Sunday, with some weekend work and Sundays at Sittingbourne Delivery Office (ME10 4AA).

Pay is £13.68 per hour, paid monthly, with paid overtime available. You will sort mail at the delivery office, deliver by van and on foot in your local area, build relationships with customers, and work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, lift 10kg+ mailbags

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
