Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Sheerness. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot in your local area, building relationships with customers while working outdoors. The role is a fixed-term contract for 6 months, with 27.5 hours per week on a rotating schedule, including some weekend work.

Training is provided along with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van. You’ll drive daily, stay active, and support the community through weathered conditions and busy

Qualifications

Location: Sheerness Delivery Office, ME12 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 27:50 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:30 - 15:30/14:00 - 20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Sittingbourne Delivery Office (ME10 4AA).

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
