Job summary

Royal Mail in Larne is seeking a postal delivery postie to sort and deliver letters and parcels across the local area. You will drive a Royal Mail van and walk routes, building customer relationships while working outdoors in all weather.

The role is permanent with a 37-hour week, 5 days in 6, including some weekend work. Full training and a uniform are provided, with a focus on safety and service.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Able to pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit to walk long distances and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and well organised.
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently.

Responsibilities

Location: Larne Delivery Office, BT40 1AA

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday – 07:05/15:05*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
