Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Belfast is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a permanent contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers across your local area.

The role is physically active, outdoors in all weather, and involves a rotating shift including weekends. A full UK driving licence is required, and overtime is available with monthly pay.

Location: Belfast East Delivery Office, BT5 6QH

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.Working hours: 29:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday -08:30/16:10

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work ocaisional Sundays.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

Please note: For candidate search purposes, roles offering between 35-37 hours per week are listed as full-time. However, any role under 37 hours per week will be classified as part-time in the employment contract.

As a Postie, you're expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items (such as food products or alcohol) in line with Royal Mail business standards.
