Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) at Irlam Delivery Office in Manchester on a fixed term contract for 9 months. The role is 30 hours per week across Monday to Saturday on a rotating schedule, with weekend work and overtime opportunities.

You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, build relationships with customers, and work outdoors in all weather. A full manual UK driving licence is required, and you should be physically fit and motivated to provide

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 3 in 5 Saturdays at Irlam Delivery Office

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)


• Driving a Royal Mail van daily


• Working in all weather conditions


• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels


• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)


• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment


• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags


• Reliable and self-motivated


• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment


• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service


• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
