Job summary

Royal Mail in London is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) at Kentish Town Delivery Office on a fixed-term contract for 9 months. The role covers 27 hours per week, five days in seven, 09:00–20:00, with two shift patterns and weekend Sundays on a rota.

You will sort and deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, build relationships with customers, and work outdoors in all weather. A full manual UK driving licence is required; full training is provided along with a pension and

Location: Kentish Town Delivery Office, NW5 3RR

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £16.24 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 27 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00/20:00

This is for 2 shift patterns 0900-1500 or 1400-2000, more details will be given at Interview.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays on a rota basis.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
