Job summary

Royal Mail in Dolgellau is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to sort and deliver letters and parcels in the local area. The role runs on a rotating shift, including weekends, with a 30-hour week from 10:00 to 16:00, and provides full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van for daily use.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 10:00/16:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends (saturday and Sunday). Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
