Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie in Dereham to deliver letters and parcels, both by van and on foot, and to build relationships with customers in the local area. The role is outdoor, physically demanding, and involves working across shifts in a busy environment.

You will need a full manual UK driving licence, willingness to drive daily, and the ability to pass a driving assessment. Training and a uniform are provided.

Working hours

37 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday, 07:30 to 18:00* Shifts will be usually 8hrs 15, delivered between 07:15 and 15:45 Sundays will be 10:00-17:00 every 1 in 4 Sundays

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
