Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie at the Dalkeith Delivery Office. This fixed-term role (9 months) offers 30 hours per week across five days, with a 13.68 hourly rate and paid overtime. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, building relationships with customers in the local community.

The job involves working outdoors in all weather, following a rotating shift pattern including some weekends, and completing full training with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van provided.

Salary: £13.68 per hour * (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 0945/1645*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

  About you

  We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

  • A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
  • Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
  • Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
  • Reliable and self-motivated
