Job summary

Royal Mail in Cwmbran is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to sort and deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift, including Sundays. You’ll drive a Royal Mail van, walk routes, and build relationships with customers in your local area.

Full training is provided, with 37 hours per week and a 6-month fixed-term contract. You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence and the fitness to work outdoors in all weathers.

Location: Cwmbran Delivery Office, NP44 1BZ

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday

Monday - Saturday hours: 07:25 - 16:05 OR 13:30 - 22:00

Sunday hours: 08:00 – 16:00 OR 12:30 – 20:30

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Newport West Delivery Office.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
