Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Cardigan for a 9-month fixed term contract. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build customer relationships as part of a busy, outdoor role.

The position runs on a 37-hour week with rotating shifts, including weekends, and involves delivering letters and parcels in Cardigan and surrounding areas. Training and a red Royal Mail van are provided.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

Location: Cardigan Delivery Office, SA43 1BS

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 6 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday for four weeks and the fifth week off – 08:00/16:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:
