Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Halifax. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in your local area.

The role involves working outdoors, often in all weather, with a rotating weekend schedule and a driving assessment to obtain the Royal Mail van entitlement. It is a permanent, part-time role with a 30-hour week and a 09:30–16:00 shift, plus paid overtime.

Location: Halifax Delivery Office, HX1 1AA

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:30/16:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays.

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
