Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Peterborough, at the Orton Southgate Delivery Office. The role involves delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot, with 37 hours per week and weekend rotas. You’ll gain full training, a uniform, and a trusted red van to help your local community.

We’re seeking active, independent team players who enjoy outdoor work, can pass a driving assessment, and uphold excellent customer service while handling items in all weather conditions.

Location: Orton Southgate Delivery Office, PE2 6BZ

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:15-20:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Orton Soutgate Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
