Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Peterborough to sort and deliver letters and parcels across a rotating shift pattern. You’ll work 37 hours per week across five days in seven, including Sundays, with a Sunday pattern 09:00–17:00.

The role is based at Orton Southgate Delivery Office, PE2 6BZ, with paid overtime available and a fixed-term contract for 12 months. We require a full manual UK driving licence and the ability to pass a driving assessment.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence (manual) with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Comfortable working outdoors and in all weather conditions.

Working hours: 37 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:15 - 15:45/11:05 - 19:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Peterborough Delivery Office and the Sunday shift pattern would be from 09:00/17:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
