Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Londonderry seeks a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift, including weekends. You will work outdoors, build relationships with customers, and follow a rotating rota that confirms hours and routes.

Full training, a uniform, and a red van are provided. Role requires a full manual UK driving licence, the ability to drive daily, pass a driving assessment, and physical fitness to walk long distances and lift mailbags.

Location: Londonderry Delivery Office, BT48 7BE

Job type: Permanentcontract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - Earliest Start: 08:00/Latest Finish: 18:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work Sundays as per the rota.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
