Job summary

Royal Mail in Kidlington is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract to serve the local area, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot. You will work a rotating shift, including some weekends, with the rota confirming hours and routes daily.

You will be trained, issued a uniform and a red van, and will need to be physically fit to walk long distances, drive daily, and pass a driving assessment. This role offers outdoor work and community contact.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07.29/14:11*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 1 in 6 Sundays at Kidlington Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
