Job summary

Royal Mail in Witney is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 6‑month fixed term. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot across your local area, with a rotating shift pattern including weekends.

You must hold a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points), be physically able to walk long distances and lift 10kg+ mailbags, and show reliability, independence and strong customer focus in a busy environment.

Location: Witney Delivery Office, OX28 4WS

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – with various shifts within 07:00-20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
