Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Epsom is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will work 30 hours per week across 5 days in 7, including Sundays at Leatherhead on a rota; 9:00–16:00.

Training is provided, with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van supplied. Responsibilities include sorting at the delivery office, delivering locally by van or on foot, and building strong customer relationships in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Able to pass a driving assessment for Royal Mail vans.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances.
• Reliable and self-motivated in a busy delivery role.
• Strong organisation and resilience for daily routes.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £16.24 per hour * (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 9:00/16:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Leatherhead Delivery Office, 10:00 to 18:00 on a rota basis

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
