Royal Mail Group in Sydenham (SE23) is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract of 9 months. The role involves delivering letters and parcels in your local area, 30 hours per week across 5 days, with a weekend rotation and occasional Sundays, in all weathers.

You’ll receive full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van. A full manual UK driving licence and the ability to pass a driving assessment are required; physical fitness and reliability are essential.

Location: Sydenham Delivery Office, SE23 2LZ

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday -07:15/16:00

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays on occasion.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
