Job summary

mydentist, the UK’s leading provider of affordable dental care, invites applications for a Portfolio Manager in Greater Manchester. This hybrid, full-time role (37 hours) combines office days with home working and sits within our Tech & Transformation team at the Support Centre.

You will oversee a portfolio of projects, align with organisational strategy, and drive value through effective planning, governance and sponsorship across the business.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading portfolios in retail or health services.
• Understanding of IT transformation and people change methodologies.
• Experience with portfolio planning, governance and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the portfolio roadmap aligned with organisational objectives.
• Prioritise initiatives based on value, risk and resources.
• Build and maintain portfolio plans with tracking and deviation explanations.
• Enforce portfolio governance frameworks, standards and processes.
• Manage portfolio budgets, forecasts and financial reporting.
• Line manage and develop Project Managers.
• Foster accountability, innovation and delivery excellence.
• Develop strong stakeholder relationships within the pillar.
• Communicate portfolio status and strategic alignment to senior leadership.

Your future, as an Portfolio Manager at mydentist

You’ll be joining our Tech & Transformation within our Support Centre, which is in Greater Manchester (M26 1GG). The role is a hybrid role ideally including one day a week in the office.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to mydentist’s 4 million patients

• The role is permanent and full time (37 hours)
• Hybrid working arrangements, with a split between being in the office and working from home.

Your future, your role

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing a portfolio of projects to ensure alignment with organisational strategy, optimal resource utilisation, and delivery of expected outcomes. This role involves strategic planning, performance monitoring, risk management, and stakeholder engagement to maximise value across the portfolio

• Define and maintain the portfolio roadmap aligned with organisational objectives.
• Prioritise initiatives based on strategic value, risk, and resource availability.
• Build and maintain portfolio plans, tracking against plan and providing explanations for any deviations.
• Enforce portfolio governance frameworks, standards, and processes as set by PMO.
• Manage portfolio budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting
• Line manage and develop Project Managers, offering task management and line management
• Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and delivery excellence.
• Develop strong relationships with stakeholders within the specific pillar.
• Communicate portfolio status and strategic alignment to senior leadership.

An ideal candidate will have proven experience in leading portfolios in a retail or health services environment and ideally have an understanding of both IT transformation and people change methodologies.
