Job summary

Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury, part of Circle Health Group, has an opportunity for a Porter to join the Portering department on a bank basis. This "as and when required" role supplements staffing during busy periods and covers for annual leave or absence.

Duties include moving patients, equipment and goods around the site, escorting patients and explaining hospital facilities, providing courteous service, and maintaining patient comfort and dignity.

Qualifications

• Front line customer-facing experience is required.
• Portering experience in healthcare, hotel or hospitality is advantageous.
• GCSE Maths and English (A–C) or equivalent required.
• Proficient with PC and basic software/systems.

Responsibilities

• Move patients, equipment and goods as required across the site.
• Escort patients to rooms and explain facilities to them and families.
• Provide courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Ensure patient comfort and dignity at all times.
• Assist with security and hospital security procedures.
• Night shifts may involve cleaning, sterilisation and theatre prep.
• Complete mandatory training as required.

We have an opportunity for a Porter to join their team of staff in thePortering department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Undertake a range of general and ad hoc tasks on a day-to-day basis to meet the requirements of the site such as patient, equipment, and goods (e.g., pharmacy goods) movement.
• Explain hospital facilities and services to patients and family members when escorting people to rooms or other hospital areas.
• Provide a courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Ensure patient comfort and dignity are always maintained.
• Provide security for the facility as required within each specific hospital, ensuring compliance of security processes and external patrols are covered as appropriate to the hospital.
• Night Shift Only: You may be required to support with cleaning, sterilisation and preparation of surgical theatres.
• Comply with all relevant mandatory training.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Front line customer facing experience.
• Previous portering experience in a healthcare, hotel or hospitality setting would be beneficial.
• Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
• Proficiency in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
