Job summary

Associated British Ports seeks a Mechanical Technician to join our team. You will report to the Team Leader and maintain port-side cranes, mobile structures, and fixed infrastructure.

Fault-finding in electrical/mechanical systems and CMMS usage are essential, with a background primarily in mechanical engineering and some electrical exposure. The role operates on a 39-hour week (Mon-Thu 07:30–16:00, Fri 07:30–15:00) with an on-call rota and a minimum 4-hour call-out payment; overtime applies for

Qualifications

• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Time served with an Engineering qualification - Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on Mobile Harbour Cranes and airbridges.
• Capable of fault-finding in electrical or mechanical plant and equipment including an understanding of schematics.
• Confident at working at height or around water.
• Flexible to work/call-out requirements and be a member of a call-out roster.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical maintenance works to assets such as airbridges, cranes, vehicle ramps, pumps, and infrastructure.
• Provide support and mentorship to Semi-Skilled Engineers and Apprentices.
• Undertake works commensurate with trade and other disciplines/contractors with proper training.
• Carry out pre-emptive and reactive works to keep assets operational per inspection/servicing regime.
