Cardiff Council is recruiting for a Pool Operative in the Domestic Team to collect waste and recycling across Cardiff. The role includes loading and driving duties, requiring physical fitness and the ability to maintain assigned vehicles.
The successful candidate will have a Class 2 Driving Licence, training or knowledge of manual handling and a strong focus on Health & Safety. You must be adaptable to outdoor conditions and follow council policies and procedures.

As a Pool Operative within the Domestic Team, you will be responsible for collecting waste and recycling materials throughout Cardiff. The role will require you to act as both a loader, and a driver, dependent upon the needs of the service. You will be physically fit, and able to drive and maintain any allocated vehicle to facilitate waste collections.
Please Note - This post is full time with operational hours 6.00am-3.45pm Tuesday to Friday. You are contracted to work Good Friday. Where Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s day fall on a contracted working day, subsequent catch up days, which may include weekend working, will be a mandatory requirement. Where any Bank Holiday fall on a working day this will also be a mandatory requirement.
Class 2 Driving License is essential for this role as well as training in or knowledge of Manual Handling Techniques and Health & Safety at work.
The successful candidate will have experience of working within a large operational team and direct public contact with excellent customer service skills. You will have experience of manual handling operations as well as working outdoors in all weather conditions. Experience of following Health & Safety guidance is essential for this role.
You will be able to quickly adapt to technologies used by the service. You will need to understand and operate in line with Council Policies and Procedures. You must maintain the reputation of the Council by adopting a professional and courteous approach.
This post is temporary until 31/01/2027.
