Job summary

Cardiff Council is seeking a Recycling Communication Officer to support frontline operations within Street Scene Services. The role focuses on being the voice of Cardiff's recycling and waste service, engaging with residents, schools, and community groups through door knocking and outreach sessions.

You will help grow segregated recycling in flats city-wide, assist with data collection for the waste strategy, and conduct surveys and on-street monitoring as part of desk research.

About the job

The role of a recycling communication officer is to be 'the voice' of Cardiff's recycling and waste service.

This includes speaking with residents, community groups, schools and trade customers through a range of door knocking and community outreach sessions. Your conversations will include the correct presentation of waste, the benefits of recycling, how to reduce waste etc.

You’ll also help shape and roll out the changes needed to grow segregated recycling in flats right across the city. You will help to provide key data, to develop Cardiff's waste strategy. This will include the completion of face-to-face surveys, on street monitoring and desk-based research.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking firstly for someone who is passionate about the Environment. You need to be able to clearly explain how positive actions, from a recycling and waste minimisation perspective, will lead to overall improvements.

You will need to be confident in speaking to a wide range of stakeholders and not be afraid of an audience.

You will have good organisation skills and be able to contribute effectively as part of a team. You will need to be flexible, to meet the demands of the service. You will embrace change and be able to effectively communicate change to stakeholders.

Additional information

There are three full-time posts available that are temporary until 31st March 2028.

Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools-based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
