Job summary

Cardiff Council is recruiting for four Pool Operative Driver positions within the Neighbourhood Services Team. You will support cleansing operations across the city, operating small mechanical sweepers and street washing fleet, with shifts including nights and weekends.

Successful candidates will hold a full valid C1 driving licence, have experience in manual handling, and deliver excellent customer service while recording tasks on tablets and keeping accurate records.

Qualifications

Cardiff is a vibrant and growing city, and we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Neighbourhood Services Team as a Pool Operative Driver. Our team is committed to delivering excellent service to Cardiff’s residents and visitors, ensuring high standards in street cleansing, waste management, and operational support.

About the job

As a Pool Operative Driver, you will support the delivery of cleansing operations and associated tasks throughout the city. Tasks also involve street cleaning activities such as collecting litter, handling split bags, removing dog faeces and deposited items from, removing leaf fall, and sweeping

Your duties will include carrying out manual handling operations, following health and safety guidance, and providing excellent customer service. You will be responsible for operating vehicles, responding to service requests and complaints.

The position involves maintaining records, using technology such as tablets or smart phone devices for daily task assignments, and documenting all completed work.

The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and requires flexibility to meet changing service needs and priorities.

What We Are Looking For From You

• A level of education or training which allows the understanding of risk assessment, working time directive and workplace instructions.
• Experience of carrying out manual handling operations and following health & safety guidance in the workplace.
• Experience of working in a face-to-face customer service environment.
• Ability to keep records accurately and use technology to input data.
• Ability to remain calm, polite, and courteous when dealing with customers.

• Full valid C1 driving licence as post is required to operate and drive a small mechanical sweeper, street washing fleet and vehicles up to 7.5 tonne.
• Able to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required.

Additional information

We are currently recruiting for four Pool Operative positions and have two shift patterns available:

• 2 positions: Sunday to Thursday, 21:00 - 05:00
• 2 positions: Saturday and Sunday, 05:00 - 18:00

The post may involve shift work, including weekends and bank holidays (excluding Christmas Day).

A full and valid driving licence is an essential requirement for these roles.
