Policy Support Officer – Legislation Team

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK. We are looking for a Policy Support Officer to work at the heart of the VMD’s policy and legislative work on the authorisation, use, and manufacture of veterinary medicines. The role supports the development and implementation of policy and legislation, advises stakeholders on requirements, and works within a project environment to manage the emerging legislative landscape across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the creation, implementation and review of veterinary medicine policy and legislation.
  • Advise and engage with internal and external stakeholders on regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in project management activities and contribute to complex policy initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Experience managing a varied workload in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and the capacity to develop a sound working knowledge of complex issues.

Position details

Location: Liverpool; Salary: £44,228 per annum, rising to £45,928; Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 35 hours a week; Permanent. Flexible working arrangements are available.
