Are you a patient, compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong background supporting children with PMLD and complex needs?
We are recruiting for a PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Merton SM4 area, working within the Early Years provision and supporting children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex additional needs.
The school supports pupils aged 3-19 with PMLD, severe and complex learning difficulties, Autism, physical and sensory disabilities and complex health needs.

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support within the Early Years setting.
Support children with PMLD and severe and complex learning difficulties.
Support sensory development, communication, cognition, physical development and independence.
Deliver and support sensory, play-based and personalised learning activities
Use appropriate communication strategies to help children express their needs and engage with learning.
Support pupils with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex health needs.
Assist with personal care, feeding and mobility where required, following appropriate training and care plans.
Follow individual EHCPs, learning plans, care plans and health protocols.
Work closely with teachers, therapists, nurses and other specialist professionals.
Monitor pupil engagement, development and progress.
Help create a calm, safe and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong experience supporting children with PMLD or complex SEN.
Experience working with Early Years children is highly desirable.
Experience within a specialist school, SEN provision, residential setting, care or healthcare environment.
Understanding of sensory needs, communication difficulties and personalised learning.
Confidence supporting children with significant physical, medical or personal care needs.
A calm, patient and highly compassionate approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
The ability to follow detailed individual care and support plans.
Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.
Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory integration, moving and handling, feeding or complex medical needs would be highly beneficial.
You don't necessarily need a formal teaching qualification. If you have strong hands-on experience supporting children with PMLD or profound and complex needs, we'd like to hear from you.
This role is subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS disclosure.
