Job summary

Supply Desk is seeking a Specialist Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) at a welcoming school in Slough. The role focuses on developing communication, independence, learning and wellbeing while working closely with teachers, therapists and families.

The successful candidate will support personalised learning, assist with routines and use AAC where appropriate, contributing to a safe and inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities

Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity? We are seeking a committed Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you'll play a key role in supporting students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). Key Responsibilities

• Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and personalised learning activities.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with PMLD and complex additional needs.
• Support students to access learning through sensory, communication, physical, and practical activities.
• Assist students with developing communication, interaction, independence, and social skills.
• Support students with personal care, feeding, toileting, mobility, and other individual needs where required.
• Use appropriate communication approaches, including visual supports, objects of reference, signs, symbols, and AAC where appropriate.
• Support students with sensory processing needs and help create a calm, safe, and stimulating learning environment.
• Encourage students to develop confidence, independence, and positive relationships with others.
• Follow individual education, healthcare, therapy, and behaviour plans as directed by relevant professionals.
• Monitor and provide feedback on students' progress, behaviour, communication, engagement, and wellbeing.

Requirements

• Encourage students to make choices, participate in activities, and develop greater independence.

• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, healthcare professionals, parents, carers, and the wider school team.
• Support students during break times, lunchtimes, trips, community activities, and other school activities where required.
• Assist with classroom preparation, specialist resources, equipment, displays, and learning activities.
• Follow appropriate moving and handling, health and safety, and personal care procedures at all times.
• Promote dignity, inclusion, independence, and positive relationships throughout the school day.
• Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.
