Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly PMLD, EYFS, or complex needs, in school, care, or similar settings.
• Understanding of early childhood development and sensory-based learning approaches.
• Confidence in using communication strategies and differentiated support techniques to engage non-verbal or minimally verbal learners.
• A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or equivalent experience.
• Willingness to support with personal care and physical needs where required.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of individualised, play-based and sensory learning activities appropriate to EYFS development.
• Work closely with teaching staff to adapt tasks and provide consistent support for pupils with PMLD.
• Use communication methods (Makaton, PECS, visuals, sensory cues) to help pupils engage.
• Provide personal care and physical support while ensuring dignity and safety.
• Create a calm, structured environment using sensory strategies to support attention and participation.
• Encourage early developmental skills including communication, interaction and independence.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and respond sensitively to their needs.
