Job summary

GFSL is seeking a Plumbing Supervisor to lead a team at HMP Guys Marsh, ensuring safe and compliant operation of heating and water systems in a Category C male prison. The role involves coordinating Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners and Administrators to deliver high standards of service.

Applicants should have NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and at least five years’ experience within FM, secure or healthcare sectors, with knowledge of Water Regulations and Legionella L8

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications and a combination of skills.
• Experience in FM environments or secure settings (military/healthcare) preferred.
• Knowledge of Water Regulations and Legionella L8 requirements.
• Strong health and safety awareness and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of trades within a secure facility.
• Oversee heating, water, and building services maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards.

Contract: Full Time Monday-Friday - 39 hours

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Supervisor to join our team at HMP Guys Marsh, a Category C, male prison.

HMP Guys Marsh runs like a self-contained town, it takes hundreds of people to keep it functioning, and as the Facilities Maintenance Team we are committed and driving the smooth and safe operation, like a heart that pumps blood through the body, everything we do impacts every prisoner, employee, and visitor, and wider to the families and community.

As a Mechanical Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to work alongside and lead experienced and passionate colleagues who vary from Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, to Cleaners, and Administrators, and others, who are all dedicated to making a positive difference, providing a safe and secure environment for all.

We are a Ministry of Justice business and provide critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and are looking for a Supervisor with one of the following NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications and combination of skills:

• City & Guilds 6009/Q1014058 - Mechanical Engineering Services: Plumbing (Domestic)
• BPEC Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating
• City & Guilds 6189 - Plumbing and Domestic Heating
• City & Guilds 6032 - Advanced Craft Certificate in Plumbing
• City & Guilds 5962 - Certificate in Plumbing (Advanced Craft)
• City & Guilds 6019 - Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing)
• City & Guilds 6288-31 - Heating and Ventilating Craftsperson (Industrial & Commercial)
• ETA Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
• City & Guilds 6188 - Heating and Ventilating
• City & Guilds 6088 - Certificate in Heating and Ventilating
• City & Guilds 6018 - Heating and Ventilation Installation
• City & Guilds 214 - Engineering Systems Maintenance
• A minimum of five years' experience, ideally within an FM environment and/ or secure environment, military, health or similar sectors.
• Experience working on commercial or industrial heating, water or building service systems.
• Familiar with, and ability to, work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
• Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• A rounded knowledge of risk and compliance and demonstrable planning & project management skills.

Future Plans.

GFSL has been notified by it's shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM Services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL's services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
