Job summary

Imperial College London seeks a Platform Team Lead (Server Infrastructure) to manage and evolve our core server infrastructure, including hosting, virtualization, compute, storage, and backup platforms. You will drive automation, observability, and reliability across hybrid cloud environments to support research, teaching and services.

The role requires strong leadership, extensive experience with enterprise infrastructures, and collaboration across security, networking and cloud teams.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in managing enterprise server infrastructure in a complex environment.
• Experience in leading technical teams.
• Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical teams.
• Public cloud infrastructure experience (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
• Knowledge of security and compliance standards relevant to infrastructure operations.
• Experience working within ITIL-aligned service management environments.

Responsibilities

• Manage operational, maintenance, and continual improvement of enterprise server infrastructure platforms.
• Oversee hosting, virtualisation, compute, storage and backup technologies.
• Monitor health, capacity and performance; identify opportunities for optimisation.
• Lead incident response, root cause analysis and problem management for critical services.
• Collaborate with security, networking, cloud and application teams to meet requirements.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Attend datacentre locations as required.
