Job summary

Nominet is seeking a Platform Engineer to support, maintain and enhance our private cloud platforms across core data centres and edge sites. You will work across the stack—from hardware and networking through to containerisation—developing automation tools to keep platforms secure, consistent and reliable.

In this hybrid role, you’ll collaborate with engineers, participate in on-call rotations and contribute to the evolution of our Platform-as-a-Service enabling critical UK internet services.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating complex infrastructure spanning networking, Linux, compute and storage.
• Strong incident response and ownership in production environments.
• Experience with automation or infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Operate and improve private cloud infrastructure across datacentres and edge locations, covering compute, storage, Linux, virtualisation and Kubernetes.
• Manage the platform lifecycle through patching, upgrades, capacity planning and proactive maintenance.
• Automate provisioning, configuration and operational workflows using Ansible, Terraform, Packer and GitOps to reduce manual effort and risk.
• Monitor platform health, backups, troubleshoot issues and respond to alerts and incidents (on-call rotation).
• Collaborate with technical teams to strengthen platform security, resilience and availability.
