Job summary

Veolia in Marchwood, Hampshire, is seeking a Plant Operator to join the team. The role involves daily plant operations, transferring liquids between tanks, sampling road tankers, and assisting with discharge of bulk liquids.

Overtime, weekend work may be available, and full training plus PPE are provided. Requirements include numeracy and literacy, with desirable experience in mechanical engineering or industrial environments.

Qualifications

• Numeracy and literacy are required.
• Experience or interest in mechanical engineering is desirable.
• Experience in wastewater/processing plants or similar industrial environments is highly desirable.
• Experience with spreadsheets/word processing is advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence and forklift experience/certification are desirable, training provided.

Responsibilities

• Support the Plant team with day-to-day operations, including transferring bulk liquids between tanks and sampling road tankers.
• Start/stop plant machinery, complete daily check sheets, report defects and operate forklift after training.
• Carry out general housekeeping and basic maintenance tasks (greasing, chipping, painting).
• Monitor contractors and visitors to ensure safety on site.
• Support the QHSE Management Systems and improvements.
• Receive full training and suitable PPE and workwear will be supplied.

Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 06:00–15:30 or 07:30–17:00, with a 30-minute unpaid break; overtime is paid, and voluntary weekend/out-of-hours work may be available

What you’ll be doing;

• Supporting the Plant team with day-to-day operations, including transferring bulk liquids between storage tanks, sampling road tankers and assisting with the discharge of bulk liquids from vehicles and barges.
• Starting and stopping plant machinery as required, carrying out daily check sheets, reporting defects and operating a forklift truck following full training.
• Completing general housekeeping duties such as litter picking, as well as basic maintenance tasks including greasing, chipping and painting.
• Monitoring contractors and visitors to help ensure they remain safe while on site.
• Actively supporting the continuous improvement of the company’s Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental (QHSE) Management Systems.
• Full training will be provided, and all required personal protective equipment and workwear will be supplied.

What we’re looking for;

• A reliable and flexible team player who is also able to work independently and use their own initiative.
• Good levels of numeracy and literacy.
• Some experience of, or an interest in, mechanical engineering would be desirable.
• Previous experience working in a wastewater treatment plant, processing plant or similar industrial environment would be highly desirable.
• Experience using spreadsheets and word-processing documents would be advantageous.
• A full UK driving licence and forklift experience or certification would be desirable, although training will be provided..
