Job summary

Astute People is recruiting a Plant Operator for an Energy from Waste facility in Worcestershire. The role requires safe, efficient operation, monitoring from the central control room, and routine inspections to keep equipment running smoothly.

The successful candidate will join a rotating shift team, bring experience from heavy industrial settings, and comply with HSE requirements while contributing to continuous plant performance and data reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience working shifts within a continuous process or industrial environment.
• Experience in power generation, Energy from Waste, or defence operations advantageous.
• Understanding of industrial plant operations, HSE requirements.
• Good computer literacy for control systems.
• Willing to rotate shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate the Energy from Waste facility in line with operational procedures.
• Monitor and control plant operations from the central control room using computer-based control systems.
• Carry out routine plant inspections and testing to ensure equipment operates correctly.
• Monitor plant performance and escalate issues as required.
• Record, analyse and report operational data during the shift.
• Raise work requests and report defects or maintenance needs.
• Support emergency procedures and follow instructions during incidents.
• Monitor consumables and residue levels to maintain continuous operation.
• Complete shift logs and handovers for clear communication between shifts.

Responsibilities And Duties Of The Plant Operator Role

Reporting to the Shift Team Leader you will:

• Safely and efficiently operate the Energy from Waste facility in line with operational procedures
• Monitor and control plant operations from the central control room using computer-based control systems
• Carry out routine plant inspections, operational checks and testing to ensure equipment is operating correctly
• Monitor plant performance and identify any issues or abnormalities, escalating where required
• Monitor CCTV and site security systems as part of the safe and secure operation of the facility
• Record, analyse and report operational data accurately throughout the shift
• Raise work requests and report plant defects or maintenance requirements when identified
• Support emergency response procedures and follow operational instructions during incidents
• Monitor consumables and residue levels to help maintain continuous plant operation
• Complete accurate shift logs and detailed handovers to ensure effective communication between shifts

Professional Qualifications

• Experience working shifts within a continuous process or industrial environment
• Experience within power generation, Energy from Waste, defence or a similar operational environment would be advantageous
• Understanding of industrial plant operations, safe working practices and Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
• Good computer literacy with the ability to operate computer-based control and monitoring systems
• Happy to work a rotating shift pattern including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays
