Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Plant Operator at our Chilton site near Durham. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, with a rotational shift pattern from 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00. Salary is £28,840 per year plus Veolia benefits.

You will handle raw materials, monitor production KPIs, and ensure safe, compliant plant operation. We value continuous learning and offer ongoing training, a pension scheme, and health and wellbeing resources.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence and reliable transport due to site location.
• Strong IT skills to record and report operational data accurately.
• Ability to operate a range of mobile equipment after training.

Responsibilities

• Handle raw materials and support product quality control through the wood pellet process.
• Monitor production activity to ensure KPIs are met.
• Conduct routine plant inspections and make operational adjustments.
• Operate plant and equipment safely in line with procedures.
• Record and report accurate plant and production data.
• Follow Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental policies.
• Complete ongoing training to grow role knowledge.

What you’ll be doing;

• Handle raw materials and support product quality control throughout the wood pellet production process.
• Monitor production activity to ensure operational KPIs are achieved.
• Carry out routine plant inspections and complete operational adjustments as required.
• Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently in line with training and site procedures.
• Collect, record and report accurate plant and production data.
• Work in accordance with the company’s Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
• Comply with all relevant legislation, policies and operational procedures.
• Complete ongoing training and development to improve the knowledge and skills required for the role.

What we’re looking for;

• A full UK driving licence and access to reliable transport, due to the location of the site.
• Strong IT skills, including the ability to record and report operational data accurately.
• The ability to operate a range of mobile equipment, following appropriate training.
• Previous experience in a similar production, processing, plant or operational role would be advantageous.
• Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship or operational training course would be advantageous.
• An understanding of quality control, KPI monitoring and safe plant operation.
• A willingness to undertake continued learning and development relevant to the role.
